Background : Chronic cough is defined as coughing more than 8 weeks in adult guidelines. Prevalence of cause of chronic cough is various by region and ethnicity. We investigated prevalence of cause and tendency of treatment option in cohort study in Korean adults.
Methods: We performed multi-center, prospective, observational cohort study from March 1st, 2016 to February 28th, 2018. Studies conducted in 19 University hospital based on Cough Research Society of Korean Association of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease. Inclusion criteria were more than 8 weeks of cough duration and more than 18 year-old patients. Exclusion criteria were smoker, ACEi user, and current chronic respiratory diseases. Positive findings of cough response were defined by improvement of the cough NRS more than 50% or absolute decrease of the cough NRS more than 4 scale. Early responder was described as a responder after first treatment, and other were late responder. Results : Total 626 people was collected at cohort. Diagnosis of Upper Airway Cough Syndrome(UACS) showed early response (P=0.006). Diagnosis eosinophilic bronchitis showed late response (P=0.013). Idiopathic cough showed late response (P=0.002). Conclusion : We described differences of cause of chronic cough in early responder.
