A1974 - Changes in Pulmonary Function Test Among Bronchiectasis Patients

Rationale: Bronchiectasis is a disorder characterized mainly by destruction of bronchial wall. Sometimes bronchiectasis patients demonstrate obstructive disorder due to bronchial secretion and also has restrictive disorders due to pulmonary fibrosis by repeating infection. To clarify whether or not bronchiectasis affected to pulmonary function test, pulmonary function test as well as clinical characteristics were investigated in of bronchiectasis patients. Method: This is a single institute, retrospective study. Chest CT proven bronchiectasis patients whom done for repeated pulmonary function test were included. Clinical data such as 1) bacteria colonization, 2) pulmonary function test, and 3) macrolide use were analyzed.Results: The number of patients in this study was 31. Macrolides were administered in 14 patients. 15 patients demonstrated the decline of FEV 1. In 8 of 15 patients, macrolide were administered. Klebsiella pneumoniae were detected in 5 patients. Four of 5 patients with K. pneumoniae colonization demonstrated the decline of FEV 1. In addition, 6 of 11 with Haemophilus influenzae and 6 of 15 with Pseudomonas aeruginosa demonstrated the decline of FEV 1, significantly. Conclusion: Bronchiectasis contributed to the decline of pulmonary function test, especially FEV1, regardless of macrolide use. Bacterial colonization might affect the decline of FEV1.
