Description

Decannulation process in children is approached in several ways. While microlaryngoscopy and bronchoscopy evaluate anatomical airway patency, polysomnography assesses an alteration in sleep-related upper airway physiology. Our recent study has shown that polysomnography is an important tool in evaluation of decannulation readiness especially in children with complex airway issues. Specific polysomnographic parameters are very useful in predicting successful decannulation. In this session, the role of polysomnography in decannulation process and specific tracheostomy capping protocols in pediatric population will be discussed. Interactive case based presentation will be utilized for this purpose.
