The American Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society have defined respiratory health disparities as “significant differences in respiratory health that are closely linked to racial ancestry, social, economic, and or environmental differences affecting millions worldwide and leading to significant morbidity, decreased quality of life, and increased mortality”(1). During this session we will examine the effect of poverty on health disparities in children and review interventions and research aimed at reducing respiratory health disparities in cystic fibrosis, asthma, sleep, and pneumonia, both in the United States and beyond. Speakers will focus on innovations, challenges, and barriers to successfully closing the respiratory health disparities gap in children. 1.
