The session will will provide an outline of the current status of integration into clinical care of two main techniques to measure small airway function, multiple breath washout and the forced oscillation technique. The presentation will briefly outline theoretical background, and present the case for and against integration into clinical care. It will outline the significant body of evidence supporting potential clinical utility and provide a status update on standardization efforts for commercial devices for both techniques. It will also outline the current barriers to incorporation into clinical practice. Disease conditions discussed will include cystic fibrosis, asthma, and COPD. The joint pediatric and adult focus will ensure wide applicability.
