Description

This session will increase the attendee's knowledge on three important circumstances in which asthma can be problematic: during exercise, at night while asleep, and during pregnancy. For each topic, the talk will cover epidemiology, pathogenesis/pathophysiology, clinical assessment including focus on pertinent comorbidities, and pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic management. The session will be case-based to increase relevance to the learner by simulating situations that may be encountered in practice. The attendee should gain confidence in managing asthma under these three circumstances as a result of increased understanding of the basic mechanisms underlying the disease.
