This seminar will review the evidence behind patient and family engagement guidelines, and will present a practical toolkit for how bedside clinicians can use specific techniques to implement these guidelines. Specifically, this would include how to engage patients and family members in the ICU through activities such as support groups, hospitality carts and informational materials, family attendance on rounds (including teaching rounds), and family participation in clinical care. Attendees would leave with skills to both assess the level of family engagement at their facility and a plan to improve it, as well as tips for conducting research in this field.
