High resolution CT scan of the chest is an important imaging modality to aid in the diagnosis of lung diseases. There are several signs on a chest CT which are pathognomic of a disease process, while common patterns may help in understanding of the underlying pathology. Often, these are not easily recognized. Characterization of these patterns and correlating with clinical findings can be an important tool to narrow the differential diagnosis. The presentation will include identification of the signs that commonly appear on a high-resolution chest CT scan, discussion of the pathological basis of their appearance and the reason for their nomenclature. Algorithms will be discussed to approach common patterns seen on a chest CT scan. This will be aided by a comparison of the CT scan showing the sign and its namesake.
