Description

Emerging science suggests that one potential cause of excessive sleepiness (ES) in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may be alterations to wake-promoting regions of the brain resulting from chronic intermittent hypoxia and sleep fragmentation. This presentation provides an overview of several relevant studies on this topic. Prevalence and consequences of ES in OSA are also discussed, as well as information related to tools for assessment of ES in clinical practice.
